Don’t blame me: Sirius and I have bought him plenty of new shirts over the years.  He just won’t wear them.

Remus gently lifted his hand, looking at the butterfly.  ”You must be very talented to conjure something like that…though, I have to say, I’m curious about where you come from.  I think you’ve made it very clear you’re not a local.”

“I’m not local, you’re right.” Sigyn told Remus. “I, uh…have you ever heard of a place called Asgard? I know you have some myths about it…though most of them tend to be a little tall…”

“I have heard of Asgard…in Norse mythology, it’s one of the Nine Worlds and the capital for the Norse Gods.”  Remus smiled.  ”I read a lot…sometimes my partner will tease me about that, saying it’s not like I’m going to meet someone from there.  I guess I’ve proven him wrong.”

“Yes.” Sigyn smiled back. “I’m Sigyn, goddess of fidelity. My husband is Loki…god of mischief.” Sigyn nodded. “Asgard is…complicated. Your myths make it sound so nice, but the reality is that I’d rather live on Midgard with my husband…Midgard is a very nice place. Maybe we’ll find a flat somewhere…have a couple of kids…it would be nice.”

“I don’t know how nice Midgard is…but at least the war’s over around here…finally.”  Remus gave Sigyn the exhausted smile characteristic of one that had gone through a terrible war.

“Yeah….I’ve never been a high enough rank in anything…actually, I’m pretty low in regards to wizarding society…my paternal grandparents are Mug—non-magic folk, I’m gay and I’m…”

Remus stopped abruptly, surprised that he almost blurted out his biggest secret.  Though, it wasn’t as if Sigyn was a typical human…or human at all…

“Well, Remus, you’re a lot more enjoyable than a lot of the nobility I know.” Sigyn nodded. “You may not be noble by birth, but your spirit is the true essence of nobility.” She tilted her head. “So you can do magic as well? It’s quite a useful tool, is it not? Cleaning my own house would drive me mad if I had to do it without my magic.” Sigyn chuckled.

“Thank you….I could certainly say the same about you.  Many of the high society in wizarding culture are…not people I want to hang around with, though my lover is an exception…he comes from a blue-blooded family but retained none of their negative values.”

Remus sipped his coffee, and tapped the mug with his wand to warm it up.  ”And yes…magic is so convenient.  I doubt I’d be able to keep the house so clean without it…especially where Sirius and I live.”

“That’s good.” Sigyn eyed the wooden wand curiously. “Is that…a magic conduit? How wonderful! I have never seen one like that before. I don’t use one myself.” She gripped her coffee cup gently in her hands, and it wasn’t long before steam rolled from the reheated beverage. “One of the reasons my husband and I get along so well, I believe, is that we are both magic users in a realm that prides itself on warriors.” She nodded.

“Err….yes….in our society, we’re trained to use wands.”  Remus held his out so Sigyn could take a look.  ”I know a few wandless spells, like so…”  A small magical fire appeared in the palm of his hand, and then just as quickly went away.  ”But those tend to be much more difficult.”

“Oh wow…” Sigyn held out her hands and conjured a butterfly. It was green and yellow, mostly because she was thinking of her husband when she brought it to life. It fluttered up, and landed on Remus’ hand, resting there. “My husband…sometimes I beg him to teach me things if I see him do an interesting spell.” Sigyn grinned.

Remus gently lifted his hand, looking at the butterfly.  ”You must be very talented to conjure something like that…though, I have to say, I’m curious about where you come from.  I think you’ve made it very clear you’re not a local.”

“I know the feeling….Sirius can be….difficult.  Sometimes immature, often hot-headed and impulsive…but he’s loyal and sweet and have the most beautiful grey eyes…”  Remus trailed off, his mind somewhere else for a few moments.  ”….I guess we really are similar.  Our husbands…well…they might not be the typical depiction of a loving, devoted partner…but we love them and they love us…and at the end of the day, that’s the important part, right?”

“It is.” Sigyn agreed. “That is the most important part…I’d say it’s the most important part.” She smiled. “To loving husbands…” She toasted with her coffee cup, chuckling warmly. “That we love, even without being able to understand why they do what they do.” She sipped her coffee. “My husband…thinks he can’t be the domestic type…but he doesn’t realize that I think that’s fine, because I’m his wife. I’m supposed to be the one to take care of him, and wait for him while he goes off…and well, gets himself killed. Or worse. I don’t know - I never know if or when he’s coming home…” Sigyn sighed.

“Well…I’m not sure what the traditional roles are when your partner is male too…but I’m the one who is usually keeping the house in order and making sure Sirius doesn’t self-destruct…which is okay.  I’m more suited to that job…and Sirius  gives me love and acceptance in return…which is more than what I could ever hope for with most people.”  Remus was suddenly very self-conscious of the tell-tale claw marks on his face, a sign of his monthly transformations.

“You sound like a wonderful person. Your husband is very blessed.” Sigyn smiled at Remus. She noticed the scars, but when you were a goddess drinking coffee in a cafe in Midgard, you tended to notice question things too much. “I didn’t have to clean the house myself until I came to Midgard…er, Earth.” Sigyn tried to correct her slip. “Before then, I had a high enough rank due to my husband that I didn’t have to clean. My husband brought some people home once, some sort of meeting. I thought I would /never/ get the red out of that carpet…I think my husband changed out the carpet when I was out book shopping one day.”

“Yeah….I’ve never been a high enough rank in anything…actually, I’m pretty low in regards to wizarding society…my paternal grandparents are Mug—non-magic folk, I’m gay and I’m…”
